Season Review: Bataan Risers Standing and Game Scores in the 2024 MPBL Season

Bataan Risers 2024 MPBL Season

The 2024 MPBL season was a time of reckoning for the Bataan Risers, a team that has historically shown promise but faced significant challenges this year. With an overall record of 9 wins against 19 losses, securing them the 12th spot in the North Division, it's clear that the Risers had one of their toughest seasons to date.

The season kicked off with a hopeful note for Bataan, securing wins against Sarangani Marlins and Bacolod City of Smile early on. These victories hinted at potential for a competitive season. However, this was followed by back-to-back losses against the Manila Stars and Valenzuela Classic. The Risers then ended the month of April with a win versus the Bulacan Kuyas.

The initial momentum, however, quickly waned for the Risers as the team struggled to maintain consistency. After their win against the Kuyas, the Risers suffered six (6) consecutive defeats against the Davao Occidental Tigers, Pampanga Giant Lanterns, Rizal Golden Coolers, Muntinlupa Cagers, Batangas Tanduay Rum Masters and Zamboanga Master Brand Sardines.

Higher Salary With Low Playing Time or Be A Star With Less Pay?

Kyt Jimenez mpbl

For generational talents like Kai Sotto, Carl Tamayo and Kevin Quiambao, they do not need to worry on where they are going to play next after their collegiate or amateur careers. They can certainly get the bag while getting the playing time needed to perform and contribute for their team.

It is much different, however, for most of young basketball talents going to the professional ranks. As a Filipino basketball player fresh out of college, you're faced with a significant choice that could shape your career in different ways. Will you join the Philippine Basketball Association where you may have less minutes as the competition is tougher, or will you take a different path and establish a name with the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL)?

Topeng Lagrama Inspires Youth With His Basketball Journey

Topeng Lagrama MPBL Journey

In the vibrant world of Filipino basketball, the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) has become a beacon of hope for many aspiring athletes. Among the stories that resonate with young players, particularly those of smaller stature, is that of Topeng Lagrama, a point guard for the Quezon Huskers. Lagrama's journey from the streets of Lucena City to the courts of the MPBL is not just a tale of skill but of perseverance, heart, and the belief that size does not dictate success.

Topeng Lagrama, at a height that might be considered modest in the towering landscape of basketball, has shown that determination and skill can overcome physical limitations. Standing at 5'5", Lagrama has not let his height define his capabilities on the court. His play style, characterized by quickness, sharp shooting, and an uncanny ability to navigate through defenses, challenges the conventional wisdom that taller players have an inherent advantage.

Mac Tallo's Basketball Journey From Cebu's Courts to The Bright Lights of the PBA

Mac Tallo MPBL Journey

Mark Jayven "Mac" Tallo, born on January 2, 1994, in Cebu City, has carved a unique path through the Philippine basketball landscape. Known by his nickname "Spidamac," Tallo's career is a testament to perseverance, skill, and a deep-seated love for the game.

Early beginnings in Cebu

Tallo's basketball journey began in the vibrant, basketball-obsessed community of Sitio Kawayan in Barangay Sambag Dos, Cebu province. Influenced by his father, former PBA player Mark Tallo, Mac's passion for basketball was evident from a young age. He started playing at six, honing his skills on the small courts of his neighborhood, learning to navigate through physical play and tight spaces.

His high school career at the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) was transformative. Tallo led the Wildkittens to their first CESAFI high school title in 2009, earning him the MVP award. His performances caught the eye of UAAP giants. He initially chose to play for the Ateneo De Manila University (ADMU) Blue Eagles, but due to lack of playing time during the pre-season tournaments, he opted to transfer to the DLSU Green Archers. Unfortunately, his stint with the Green Archers was forgettable. In ten (10) games playing for the Green and White, he logged 11 minutes while contributing 1.3 points, 1.1 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game.
