The Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup basketball action enters its fourth (4th) day tomorrow and the competition is getting better as teams battle for the top position. Headlining the games on 13 July 2021 are three undefeated teams who are raring to extend their winning streak and keep their records clean.
At 12:00 noon, the Pagadian Explorers and JPS Zamboanga City who are both undefeated will battle it out in a bid to remain on top of the standings. On paper, Zamboanga City is the better team as it feature a number of Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) Players including Mac Cardona, Rudy Lingganay, Gino Jumao-as, Gabby Espinas, and Larry Rodriguez.
Zamboanga City's firepower was very evident in their opening game as they thrashed the Kapatagan Buffalo Brave, 89-53. Both Rudy Lingganay who dropped 12 points, 5 rebounds, and 9 assists, and Gino Jumao-as who scored 13 points were adjudged as the best players in that game.
Meanwhile, the Pagadian Explorers barely escaped the Roxas Vanguards, 82-80, in their opening match after Von Lloyd Dechos sank a game-winning triple in the final stretch of their game. Obviously, the Pagadian Explorers will need more than a lucky shot if they want to upset the heavily-favored Zamboanga City squad.
Capping tomorrow's competition is the match between Basilan Peace Riders and Roxas Vanguards. Coming from a bitter departure from the MPBL Playoffs last March 2021, and led by the core of its MPBL team reinforced by Chris Bitoon, the Basilan Peace Riders proved that they are still a formidable team as they lambasted the Alayon Zamboanga Del Sur team, 82-48.
The stakes do not look favorable for the Roxas Vanguards as they face another uphill battle against the Basilan Peace Riders. If they can not pull off a win, the Vanguards will find themselves in a 0-2 hole early in the season.
