The UP Fighting Maroons Men's Basketball represents the University of the Philippines (UP) in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP), the biggest and most prestigious collegiate basketball league in the country. It is one of the eight (8) member teams competing in the UAAP which was founded in 1938.
The UP Fighting Maroons won their first and only championship so far in 1986 (Season 49) with a team bannered by basketball legends Benjie Paras and Ronnie Magsanoc. The team, however, failed to win another crown in the next seasons until today.
In the recent seasons, the UP Fighting Maroons rejuvenated its basketball program with the recruitment of blue chip players including Carl Tamayo, Gerry Abadiano, and Terrence Fortea from the National University High School Team. The team likewise poached CJ Cansino from rival UST Growling Tigers, and beefed up its roster with Fil-foreign players including Zac Lucero and Anton Eusebio.
With a loaded lineup up, expectations are high for these Fighting Maroons as they aim to end finally the title drought in the other side of Diliman. Can they deliver this UAAP season 84?
