Drex Delos Reyes Weighs Move To Abra Weavers

Former Mapua Cardinals big man Drex Delos Reyes is at a crossroads early in his basketball career, as the 6-foot-8 forward-center has officially parted ways with Mapua University and is now considering two very different paths: continuing his collegiate journey or turning professional with the reigning Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) champions, the Abra Weavers.

Delos Reyes, a product of the National University Bullpups program in high school, suited up for just one season with the Cardinals in his rookie year.

In limited action, the Bacoor, Cavite native showed flashes of potential, averaging 4.71 points and 3.29 rebounds in just 10 minutes of playing time per game. While his role was modest, his size and upside made him a long-term prospect for any program willing to invest in his development.

Now 21 years old, Delos Reyes has opted to move on from Mapua and is currently weighing his next move. One option on the table is staying in the collegiate ranks by transferring to Jose Rizal University, where he could play under veteran coach Nani Epondulan with the Heavy Bombers. The other, more immediate opportunity is a jump to the professional level with Abra in the MPBL.

The Abra Weavers present a compelling case. Fresh off their 2025 MPBL championship, the Weavers are looking to reload as they aim to defend their title. With the departure of 6-foot-10 center Geo Chiu, Abra is in need of a new interior presence—and Delos Reyes is being eyed as a potential replacement. His size, mobility, and familiarity with high-level competition could allow him to contribute while continuing to grow against seasoned professionals.

Turning pro would mark a significant step for Delos Reyes, but it would not be unfamiliar territory. His basketball résumé already includes stints with multiple competitive teams and leagues, including Havoc (Milcu GotSkills), Coach A Basketball in the Throwdown Basketball League, Bacoor Strike Agimat—where he won a championship in the Cavite Ballers League 25U—Parañaque Aces in NBL-Youth, and appearances in various Mapua teams across Pinoyliga, AsiaBasket, and the Filoil preseason tournaments. He was also part of the Batang Gilas Under-18 pool that trained for the FIBA Asia Championship.

Born on June 24, 2004, Delos Reyes plays both power forward and center, positions that remain in demand in both the collegiate and professional scenes. Whether he chooses to refine his game further in the NCAA with JRU or test himself immediately in the MPBL spotlight with Abra, his next decision could shape the trajectory of his young career.

For now, all eyes are on Drex Delos Reyes as he weighs development versus opportunity—college stability versus a title-contending professional squad—and prepares to take the next big step forward.
