Harold Alarcon Joins San Juan Knights After UAAP Journey

MPBL Harold Alarcon

Harold Alarcon is ready for the next chapter of his basketball career.

After exhausting his college eligibility with the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons, the two-time UAAP champion guard is taking his talents to the San Juan Knights of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL), a proud franchise that last ruled the league during the 2018–2019 season.

Alarcon’s rise to prominence began early. He first made his mark with the NU Nazareth School Bullpups in the UAAP juniors division before emerging as one of the cornerstones of the UP Fighting Maroons’ resurgence in the seniors ranks. His rookie season in UAAP Season 84 was nothing short of historic, as UP captured the championship crown alongside fellow standouts Carl Tamayo, Terrence Fortea, and Gerry Abadiano. That title run also coincided with the end of the Fighting Maroons’ long championship drought, signaling a new era for the Diliman-based squad.

The seasons that followed tested Alarcon’s resolve. UP suffered back-to-back heartbreaks in the Finals of Seasons 85 and 86, falling just short of defending their crown. True to form, however, Alarcon and the Maroons bounced back in UAAP Season 87, reclaiming the championship and giving the guard his second UAAP title. While UP was unable to defend the throne in Season 88 against the DLSU Green Archers, the campaign marked the conclusion of Alarcon’s collegiate playing career—one defined by resilience, leadership, and winning.

Dubbed “King Maroon” by the UP faithful, Alarcon now brings his championship pedigree to San Juan. Known for his steady play at the guard position, court awareness, and ability to deliver in big moments, he is expected to bolster the Knights as they seek to return to MPBL glory.

As Alarcon transitions from the collegiate stage to the professional spotlight, all eyes will be on how the former King Maroon adapts to the physical, fast-paced grind of the MPBL. One thing is certain: wherever he plays, winning has a way of following Harold Alarcon.
