The Pilipinas Super League (PSL) is a new professional league founded by Mr. Rocky Chan and Chelito Caro who were also the men behind the Pilipinas Vismin Super Cup. The PSL is planned to open on March 2022 with at least eleven (11) teams who confirmed so far.
Leading the teams are former MPBL Lakan Cup champion Davao Occidental Tigers who communicated their intention to sell its MPBL franchise and make the PSL its home league. Other teams who confirmed their participation are Basilan BRT, Cagayan Valley Golden Eagles, Cagayan De Oro, Roxas, Zamboanga del Norte, Pagadian, Lapu Lapu, Bicol and Zamboanga Del Sur.
The league is backed by Dumper Partylist, Cocolife, Phenom sportswear, MALYAB, Tri Energy Corp., and Zooey- distributed by Blue plastic Mktg. According to Chan, “Basically, we have the same concept with Vismin Cup as we cater homegrown players. Although open pa rin sa mga Luzon players, ang pagkakaiba ng PSL ay meron kaming under-21 division para mabigyan din ng pagkakataon ang sports development program.”
Originally scheduled to open on February 2022, the schedule seems to be pushed forward due to the rise of Covid-19 cases. There will be three (3) conferences per year and Cebu is planned to be the venue of the inaugural conference.
