The Makati x MNL Kingpin is a professional basketball team representing the city of Makati in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL). The team joined the MPBL in the 2018-2019 season or the Datu Cup. They were known then as the Makati Skyscrapers who clinched the 1st seed in the Northern Division but they were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by 8th seed Quezon City Capitals.

The team rebranded as the Makati Supercrunch in the Lakan Cup or 2019-2020 season. In that season, they reached the North Division Finals against San Juan Knights but their series was cancelled when the government declared a nationwide lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Makati Supercrunch, however, was embroiled in a controversy as their key players did not play when the MPBL resumed the Lakan Cup playoffs in a bubble setup in Subic Bay. With only 5 local players against a full team San Juan Knights, Makati was easily dispatched by the Knights. Can Makati redeem itself this season?

Noticeably absent from the lineup are the former professionals who towed Makati into the postseason every year including Jeckster Apinan and Cedrick Ablaza. Without the presence of veterans, the team could find it difficult to compete.

Be that as it may, the Makati x MNL Kingpin acquired the services of the players from the University of Makati basketball team. This will give the team youth and energy which they could use to upset the other teams.
