The Filoil Ecooil Preseason Cup, the premiere pre-season tournament for collegiate teams, is back after a long hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In preparation for their upcoming campaign this coming October, a number of men's basketball teams in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) are already joining pre-season tournaments to ensure that their players are in top shape.
The University of The Philippines Fighting Maroons, the most recent champion of the UAAP, leads the pack of UAAP teams who will compete against teams from the NCAA. Notably, the Ateneo Blue Eagles did not field a team as they opted to compete in games abroad.
