Ateneo Blue Eagles Men's Basketball Recruits in 2022

Ateneo Blue Eagles Newest Recruits in 2022

The Ateneo Blue Eagles is arguably the most dominant team in recent UAAP history as they won three (3) of the last four (4) championships. They, however, suffered a heartbreak last season as the UP Fighting Maroons snatched the crown courtesy of a buzzer-beater triple from JD Cagulangan.

The Ateneo Blue Eagles are looking to avenge their heartbreaking loss as they continue to build up their talent pool. As a matter of fact, the Blue Eagles will parade 6'7 Kai Ballunggay who already committed to the team last 2021. He will already play this coming UAAP Season 85.

Check out below the newest recruits of the Ateneo Blue Eagles who were formally announced this 2022!

KYLE GAMBER

The Ateneo Blue Eagles secured the commitment of 6'4 guard Kyle Gamber from Polytech High School, Delaware. He will be able to play in Season 86 of the UAAP with five (5) years of eligibility.

Kyle Gamber will definitely add size in Ateneo's backcourt if he will stick to his natural position as a guard. At 6'4, he could definitely be a headache for other guards who are smaller than him. If needed, he can also be assigned as a forward.

JARED BROWN

Jared Brown is a 5'10 point guard from La Palma, California. He previously played for the Westmont College Warriors where he averaged 5.1 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.9 assists in his junior year. He also converted 48% from the field, 43% from deep, and 87% from the foul line.

The 21-year old guard will have to red shirt for a year. He will be eligible to play for three (3) years begining UAAP Season 86.

PAUL GARCIA

Paul Garcia is a 5'11 guard from Salisbury University where he played three (3) years. The dynamic two-way guard is expected to fill in the void left by SJ Belangel who opted to turn professional in the Korean Basketball League.

Paul Garcia already started practicing with the Ateneo Blue Eagles team as he participated in the World University Basketball Series that was recently held in Japan.

ALBERT OPEÑA JR.

Albert Opeña Jr. is a 6'2 guard from St. Lawrence College in Ottawa, Canada. Coach Tab Baldwin describes him as a big guard who has quick feet and quick hands. He is still 20 years old and will be eligible to play starting UAAP Season 86.

Albert Opeña Jr.'s parents come from Nueva Vizcaya and Pasig. He averaged 8.2 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in the 18 games he played in the last Ontario Colleges Athletic Association season.

MASON AMOS

Mason Amos is a 6'7 big man who was supposed to play for the Gilas U-16 team in 2019. However, the pandemic disrupted his plans.

According to Coach Tab Baldwin, Mason Amos is big, strong and aggressive player as many Australians are. He will be eligible to play for the Ateneo Blue Eagles starting UAAP Season 86.
