The much-awaited debut of Encho Serrano for the Pampanga Giant Lanterns will finally happen at 08:00 PM tonight against the Sarangani Marlins at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center. Serrano will join a young Pampanga squad bannered by Justin Baltazar who are the only unbeaten team in this season of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL).
To recall, Encho Serrano recently declined a contract offer from the Phoenix LPG Fuelmasters of the Philippine Basketball Association. He then opted to take his talents to the MPBL to strengthen the Giant Lanterns coached by Governor Delta Pineda.
The transfer of Serrano to the MPBL raised eyebrows from basketball fans since it is usally the young stars from the MPBL who will join the PBA. For reasons only known to him, Encho Serrano defied the norm and will trailblaze a new path for young basketball players.
The Giant Lanterns will face tonight the Sarangani Marlins led by Jeff Viernes. The Marlins recently blemished the erstwhile unbeaten record of the Nueva Ecija Rice Vanguards, the Giant Lanterns' rival in the North Division.
