In a statement released during the livestream of the Pasay Voyagers versus Imus SV Squad game last July 03, 2023, the MPBL imposed a one (1) game suspension and a fine amounting to Php 75,000.00 against Coach Elvis Tolentino for hitting Felipe Chavez during a timeout in their last game with Pasig MCW Sports last June 27, 2023. Consequently, he will not be able to coach in the upcoming game of the Marikina Shoemasters on July 4, 2023 against the Paranaque Patriots.
After an investigation by the MPBL's management committee and founder Manny Pacquiao, it was found out that Coach Tolentino's actions constitute physical violence which violates fair play and respectful competition. Commissioner Kenneth Duremdes issued the suspension memo to Coach Elvis Tolentino early Monday.
"We would like to reiterate our commitment to fostering a positive and safe environment that is free from violence and conducive to fair play, respect and sportsmanship for all players, coaches and staff members during every game and every event," Commissioner Duremdes said.
We sincerely hope that this would be the last and that Coach Elvis Tolentino will take this oppotunity to reflect on his actions.
