The UP Fighting Maroons failed to repeat as champions last year after the Ateneo Blue Eagles overcame a one (1) game deficit enroute to a 2-1 win in the best-of-three championship series. Nevertheless, the Fighting Maroons remains as one of the heavy favorites to contend for the championship title alongside the Ateneo Blue Eagles and the DLSU Green Archers.
The Fighting Maroons will miss several key players who graduated including Brix Ramos, James Spencer, Zavier Lucero and Henry Galinato. Also gone from the Fighting Maroons roster are Anton Eusebio, Ashon Andrews, Bismarck Lina and RC Calimag who all transferred to other schools given the influx of bluechip recruits to Diliman such as Luis Pablo, Chico Briones, Seven Gagate and Francis Lopez.
