The Abra Weavers are one of the three (3) new franchises joining the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) 2024 season, along with the Pangasinan Heatwaves and the Tarlac United Force. While it will be their inaugural season, the Abra Weavers do not intend to earn just a participation medal.
To bolster their chance of winning the national championship, or to at least advance to the playoffs, the Abra Weavers signed up notable players from the PBA such as Mac Tallo, Prince Caperal and Jeepy Faundo. The team also enlisted promising young players as SGLs including NCAA Season 99 MVP Clint Escamis.
The Weavers also added Neil Tolentino and John Lloyd Clemente from the defending champions Pampanga Giant Lanterns. In addition, feisty point guard Felipe Chavez, who was at the receiving end of coach Elvis Tolentino's ire last season, has opted to take his talent to Abra. With a passionate team owner in Mayor JB Bernos who is known as a basketball afficionado, Abra Weavers is definitely a team to watch in the upcoming season.
