The Pampanga Giant Lanterns are the defending champion, and they are still the team to beat in the upcoming 2024 season of the MPBL despite the departure of several of its key players from its championship roster last season. Gone from the team are Neil Tolentino and John Lloyd Clemente who transferred to the Abra Weavers.
Also out from the Lanterns team are Jayson Apolonio and Mitchel Maynes who decided to take their talents to Zamboanga and Bataan respectively. JB Bahio is likewise no longer with the team, as well as CJ Gania who is reportedly with the Pangasinan Heatwaves.
Nonetheless, despite losing several of its key players, the Lanterns have enlisted notable players to fill the roles of those who left. Jeff Viernes and Jhaymo Eguilos will be a great addition to the team given their offensive prowess. Additional reinforcements include Paul Garcia, Migs Corteza, Vince Ventulan and Brandon Ramirez. JBoy Gob, Arthur Roque and Rence Alcoriza are welcome additions to the team.
As expected, the duo of Justine Baltazar and Encho Serrano will banner the Lanterns. They will be aided by Raymond Binuya, Mat De Leon, Kurt Reyson, and MJ Garcia who all decided to stay with the Lanterns. With Justine Baltazar onboard, as well as Ronan Santos, Mat De Leon and Brandon Ramirez, the Lanterns will not have any problem with height as these players stand above 6'5. Offense will also not be an issue as Jeff Viernes and Jhaymo Eguilos can contribute in scoring while Baltazar and Serrano are resting.
