The San Juan Knights are the Datu Cup (2018-2019 Season) champions of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) after they edged the Davao Occidental Tigers, 3-2, in their best-of-five national championship series.
However, the Knights have yet to reclaim the national title. Last year, the San Juan Knights made it to the North Division Finals but they fell short against the eventual champions Pampanga Giant Lanterns. Despite such setbacks in recent years, the San Juan Knights remain focus in recapturing the national trophy.
The Knights retained much of its core from last season. The back court duo of Orlan Wamar and Marwin Taywan will return for another season. Nikko Panganiban, Jeff Tajonera, Michael Calisaan, Ron Dennison, Zach Huang, Egie Boy Mojica and Kenneth Villapando will also return to the Knights.
To add firepower, the Knights recruited John Galinato and Mike Malonzo who both recently graduated from National University Bulldogs, and Paolo Hernandez from the Mapua Cardinals. Dexter Maiquez is also back with the Knights after transferring to the Zamboanga Family's Brand Sardines last season. Agem Miranda and Reynel Hugnatan are likewise new to the team.
