The Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) opened its 6th season last April 6, 2024 at the Calasiao Sports Complex, Pangasinan. The 2024 season will be bigger compared to last year as thirty (30) teams will compete for the 2024 National Title.
Three new franchises will join the MPBL starting this year. These are the Abra Weavers, Pangasinan Heatwaves and the Tarlac United Force. However, Bacoor City Strikers, Pasig MCW Sports and Makati OKbet Kings took a leave of absence.
Interestingly, the Davao Occidental Tigers franchise is back in the MPBL after taking a leave of absence in the past two (2) seasons of the league. To recall, The Tigers claimed the National Title at the end of the Lakan Season (2019-2020) which was postponed due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.
