The Pagadian Explorers banked on a balanced offense to escape the Roxas Vanguards, 82-80, in overtime during the second day of basketball action in the Ipil Provincial Gymnasium.
Homegrown player Von Lloyd Dechos saved the day for the Explorers as he sank the dagger three in the last minute of the game to put his team ahead by two (2) points with under a minute remaining in the game. He finished the game with ten (10) points, a rebound, and one (1) assist to help his team notch a win in their opening game.
Keanu Caballero and John Edros Quimado likewise contributed in the balanced attack of the Explorers as they unloaded twelve (12) points apiece. In addition to his points, Keanu also grabbed five (5) rebounds and dished out three (3) assists. Not to be outdone, Quimado also contributed two (2) boards, and a dime.
The Pagadian Explorers hopes to extend their winning record as they will face the JPS Zamboanga City team on Tuesday (13 July 2021) at 1pm.
Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) veterans Leo Najorda, Ernesto Bondoc Jr., and Lester Reyes carried the offense for the heavily favored Roxas Vanguards. Both Lester Reyes and Leo Najorda recorded double-doubles. Lester Reyes had thirteen (13) points to go along with his fourteen (14) rebounds. Meanwhile, Leo Najorda dropped fifteen (15) points on top of his eleven (11) rebounds.
