The Pampanga Giant Lanterns, San Juan Knights and Nueva Ecija Rice Vanguards are the talk of the town when it comes to the standings in the North Division, but unknown to many, there is actually a team who vanquished these three Northern leaders. Make way for the Makati OkBet Kings, perhaps the hottest team now after they subdued the defending champion Nueva Ecija and shackled the current best team in the MPBL, the Pampanga Giant Lanterns.
In addition to Pampanga and Nueva Ecija, Makati adds to the list of its high-profile victims the San Juan Knights, General Santos Warriors and the Zamboanga Family's Brand Sardines. This is not surprising since Coach Don Dulay, Eman Calo, Billy Robles and Joseph Terso were key pieces in the championship run of the Davao Occidental Tigers back in the 2019-2020 (Lakan Cup) season.
With the wins over Pampanga and Nueva Ecija, Makati extended their winning run to six (6) as they improved to 16-6, good enough for fourth (4th) place in the North. Pampanga now holds a 20-2 record while Nueva Ecija and San Juan are tied at second (2nd) with identical records of 18-4. Their upcoming match will break the tie.
In the South Division, the Batangas Embassy Chill ascended to the top courtesy of a six (6) game winning run. Batangas and Bacoor are now even at 17-4 as they occupy the number one slot.
The race to the playoffs is also getting more competitive, especially in the South Division where the 7th place onwards are separated by a few games. Imus SV Squad and Iloilo United Royals currently hold the 7th and 8th spot, respectively, but Sarangani, Bacolod and Negros are just a few wins away.
In the North Division, Bataan Risers and Rizal Golden Coolers are knocking on the door of the playoffs. They need to string several wins in their remaining games if they intend to unseat Pasay Voyagers and Marikina Shoemasters out of playoff contention.
